Ex-President Saakashvili backs Khabeishvili’s USD 200K pledge, payable after regime change
Former President Mikheil Saakashvili has voiced strong support for opposition leader Levan Khabeishvili’s initiative to offer $200,000 to members of law enforcement who “refuse to participate in violent crackdowns.”
Writing on social media, Saakashvili stated: “I fully support Levan Khabeishvili’s bold initiative. The money will be paid after the regime is changed.”
He added that members of “Ivanishvili’s repressive agencies” who hand over materials such as evidence of torture against protesters, or those who lay down their weapons and refuse to attack demonstrators, should receive the reward,” Saakashvili wrote on Facebook.
He clarified that payments would be made within one month “after regime change, in parallel with the recovery of funds stolen by Ivanishvili’s ‘mafia’.”
“People should remember-I always keep my promises,” the former president concluded.
The initiative was first proposed by United National Movement figure Levan Khabeishvili, who publicly offered financial rewards to security personnel, particularly those from the Special Tasks Department, who refuse to carry out repressive orders or who blow the whistle on the system.
