“Today, we remember the tragic occupation of the Democratic Republic of Georgia by the Red Army of Soviet Russia,” the European Union in Georgia wrote on its Facebook page.

The EU Delegation in Georgia reiterated its strong support for Georgia’s independence and sovereignty.

Soviet rule interrupted Georgia’s path of independent statehood but failed to eradicate the Georgian people’s aspiration to live in a free and democratic state.

On this day, the European Union reiterates its strong support to Georgia’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and for Georgia’s democratic foundations,” it said.
