EU Ambassador to Georgia – We consider Doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili as victim of hard situation at Division Border Line
We continue making efforts for the opening of checkpoints that is very important since the humanitarian situation across the Division Administrative Border Line is reflected on the political situation – Carl Hartzell, Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia said.
According to the EU Ambassador, the international community condemned the illegal detention of the Georgian doctor. “We consider Doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili as being the victim of the hard situation at the Administrative Border Line. . . We are involved in the negotiations that aim at the fast release of the doctor,” Hartzell said.
Tbilisi-based doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili, who was illegally detained by Russian occupation forces near the occupation line with Akhalgori Municipality, was sent to two-month pretrial detention, on November 15.
Vazha Gaprindashvili was charged with “illegally crossing the border” under article 322 of the criminal code of Russia. Tbilisi activated the hotline mechanism of EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) to Georgia.
