Emergency Management Service Head says intensive works continue in disaster area

Temur Mgebrishvili, the Head of the Emergency Management Service, provided an update on the ongoing intensive efforts in the landslide-affected Shovi resort in Oni Municipality, Racha region.

Mgebrishvili emphasized that the search and rescue operations had been actively and intensively underway. He stated that after 11 days of operations, approximately 60 percent of the landslide site had been thoroughly searched. Additionally, the search efforts were being carried out across 18 different locations.

He mentioned that the operation was still focused on finding nine missing individuals, while 24 people had already been recovered.

Mgebrishvili expressed gratitude to the Georgia Red Cross Society for effectively coordinating the participation of volunteers in disaster relief activities.

A deadly landslide struck the resort on August 3.
