Economy Minister meets WB Regional Directors for Infrastructure and South Caucasus

Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with Charles J. Cormier, Infrastructure Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, and Rolande Pryce, World Bank Regional Director for the South Caucasus.

According to information from the Ministry of Economy, the parties discussed cooperation issues, including current and future joint projects.

“The meeting addressed several key areas, with particular attention devoted to cooperation in the transport sector, which, amongst other important issues, involves promoting the development of the Middle Corridor, digitalisation of the transport corridor, as well as significant reforms being implemented with the direct support of the World Bank.

The meeting participants discussed investments to be made in Georgia’s transport infrastructure, with particular emphasis on the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project. The Georgian side shared information with World Bank representatives regarding the project’s progress, investments to be made, and the results to be achieved through the port’s development, which envisages increasing Georgia’s total annual port throughput capacity by a minimum of 600,000 containers. The parties also discussed issues concerning the construction of the railway and road access to Anaklia Port.

One significant issue which the meeting participants also discussed was the progress of the Black Sea Submarine Cable project. The Georgian side highlighted the proactive efforts undertaken within the framework of the project and the progress made so far, including the support received from the World Bank. They also discussed details concerning the conduct of Black Sea seabed surveys and explored potential avenues for developing cooperation with the Romanian side based on mutual interests.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development, Tamar Ioseliani, Inga Pkhaladze, and Vakhtang Tsintadze, and the meeting was also attended by representatives of the World Bank’s Sustainable Development and Infrastructure Programme, Transport, and Multimodal Logistics,” the Ministry of Economy has stated.
