Economy Minister emphasises vital need for ongoing dialogue with private sector to lower fuel prices
According to Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, a productive meeting took place within the government commission with major fuel sector companies, where they thoroughly discussed Georgia’s current situation and global trends regarding fuel prices.
“While fuel prices in Georgia are notably lower than in European countries, thanks largely to the government’s prudent policy on excise duties, which are on average three times lower than in Europe, it remains crucial for the state to continue engaging with the private sector,” Kvrivishvili stated.
She explained that excise duty is the primary factor behind Georgia’s cheaper fuel compared to Europe.
“Despite this, it is of utmost importance that the government maintains its efforts with the private sector to explore resources and strategies to reduce fuel prices further,” she added.
The meeting with representatives of major fuel companies was held at the Government Administration of Georgia under the leadership of the Prime Minister, as part of the Cross-Government Coordination Commission on Consumer Prices.
