Despite weather conditions search operations continue, Racha Governor says
The search and rescue efforts in the disaster-stricken area will persist as long as there remains even a faint theoretical possibility of finding the missing individuals, stated Papuna Margvelidze, the Governor of Racha region on Sunday.
“For the past 18 days, we have been engaged in search operations for citizens who went missing due to the natural disaster. Presently, 27 bodies have been discovered. The search for the six individuals is still ongoing both at the disaster’s epicentre and the Shovi resort area, as well as the Chanchakha and Rion riverbeds. Of the 27 deceased, 25 have been identified with DNA analysis. The search area spans more than 60 kilometres. Our rescue work will persist as long as there exists even the faintest theoretical possibility of finding the missing individuals.
Despite meteorological conditions, search operations have not been interrupted. A small section of the collapsed area is yet to be cleared and inspected,” explained Racha Governor.
A deadly landslide struck the resort on August 3.
