Dea Metreveli resigns from Political Council and Executive Secretary position in Lelo
Dea Metreveli announced on social media that she is stepping down from the political council and her role as executive secretary of the Lelo party.
Metreveli explained that her decision stems from disagreement within the opposition. She emphasized that achieving the common goal—fair parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners—requires unity, not division.
“For me, as a founder of Lelo and its executive secretary, it has always been crucial for the party to align with the broader national movement. Over the years, our team has remained committed to this path and these values, believing that unity is the only effective way to confront the regime.
It is regrettable that the opposition failed to unite around a single plan for the so-called local elections. I do not believe it is appropriate for some opposition parties to take part while others continue to boycott. The decision announced today by Strong Georgia does not, in my view, serve the consistency of our common struggle, especially considering the principled sacrifice made by Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze, who remained loyal to the cause even at the cost of their freedom,” she wrote.
Metreveli concluded by reaffirming her commitment to the broader opposition movement.
“Although I am leaving my official roles in the party, I remain part of the struggle for Georgia’s freedom and European future. Freedom for all political prisoners! Fight until victory,” she added.
It was also revealed today that the Lelo–Strong Georgia coalition will participate in the upcoming local elections. In addition, Saba Buadze has resigned from his roles as chairman of Lelo’s Tbilisi organisation and as a member of the political council.
