Kaladze: Georgia is ready for dialogue with EU, but will not be lectured to from above
“We are ready for dialogue, but the attitude where someone wags a finger at us from on high is categorically unacceptable,” Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said when asked about the visa-free regime.
He explained that the Georgian government has repeatedly expressed its readiness to resume dialogue with the European Union.
“We all know that their main thrust, their policy, their funding, is aimed at deepening polarisation and dividing society, something we have been talking about for a long time now. Let’s call a spade a spade: who are the people deepening this polarisation, who are the destructive ones? We have seen for ourselves how violent groups operated, groups funded from abroad. Of course, the money that flooded into this country for years was used to build an agent network, paying regular salaries to specific individuals. Non-governmental organisations claimed to be acting out of good intentions and concern, but everyone knows perfectly well what their real motivation and purpose were. It should also be noted that this money was used to organise revolutions and coups d’état within the country. The deepening of polarisation points to the same thing: dividing the Georgian people,” Kakha Kaladze said.
Kaladze also commented on the European Parliament’s resolution, stating that such documents are built on nothing but lies.
“We have seen plenty of resolutions, and we know exactly how they get adopted. They are worthless because they contain nothing but falsehood, lies, and not a shred of substance or truth. We have seen many resolutions of this kind before. The slander, the insults, the threats continue. We are ready for dialogue. But the attitude where someone wags a finger at us from on high is categorically unacceptable. Georgia is not anyone’s backyard. It is an independent country, a sovereign state. Everyone must act in good faith and show respect for the Georgian people, our statehood, and our independence,” the mayor of the capital said.
