Minister for Reconciliation meets members of Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs

Today, Georgian Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Tea Akhvlediani held a meeting with Head of the Human Security Division of the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs Simon Geissbühler and Head of Mission at the Embassy of Switzerland Christian Schoenenberger.

Tea Akhvlediani reviewed the dire humanitarian and human rights situation in the occupied regions of Georgia, including banning learning in the Georgian language in the Gali district of Abkhazia, Georgia, the ministry’s press service reported.

The need for adequate response and continued support from international partners to protect the fundamental rights of people living in the occupied territories was highlighted in this context, the press statement read.

The representative of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Switzerland’s strong support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and pledged its full support to the State Minister in the process of peaceful settlement of the conflict. The parties agreed to continue close cooperation, the press statement said.
