Joint letter of Georgian President, European Council President: EU-brokered agreement puts an end to a crisis

President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili and President of the European Council Charles Michel expressed satisfaction about reaching a compromise agreement by the ruling Georgian Dream party and the opposition on April 19.

Salome Zourabichvili and Charles Michel issued a joint letter published by Euronews.

“We, the President of Georgia and the President of the European Council, want to express our deep satisfaction in seeing this deal agreed and signed by the ruling and opposition parties. This agreement puts an end to a crisis that could have disrupted the democratic advancement achieved over the past decades and weakened Georgia’s progress along its European path,” the op-ed reads.

The two presidents call on the sides to fulfil the taken commitments as per the agreement, and to keep constructive political engagement.

European Council President Charles Michel helped broker the 19 April Agreement between political parties in Georgia, thus ending the country’s political crisis.
