The NATO Summit reaffirmed its Open Door Policy towards Georgia and Ukraine, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said following a face-to-face meeting with her Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv today.

Georgian President claims both countries have thrived on their path to NATO.

“Our task is to strengthen areas of cooperation on the integration path. This concerns cybersecurity as well as the Black Sea security. We always welcome NATO ships in our ports,” Zourabichvili underscored.

President Zourabichvili believes Georgia and Ukraine share common goals and tasks of de-occupation and EU integration on top besides having a centuries-old friendship.

“Our route to de-occupation is clear. It is a peaceful path. Georgia decried using force. I urge Russia to go that down,” she stressed.

President anew mentioned unlawfully detained Georgian citizen Zaza Gakheladze, pledging government bodies spare no effort to release him. She said Georgia hopes for international partners support in this regard.

Zourabichvili emphasized that she cares for Georgia-Ukraine relations, mentioning her concerns over snags between two countries in April 2020. The President recalled her speech in parliament that deemed Georgian Ambassador’s promptly return to Kyiv as paramount, followed by several reciprocal visits.

Georgian President added that she invited her counterpart Zelensky to Georgia.

President Zourabichvili will also meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and National Rada Chairman Dmytro Razumkov.

Georgian President arrived in Ukraine on Tuesday.
