Dimitri Peskov: Normandy format was formed to resolve conflict in Ukraine, in case of Georgia we have Russia-Georgia bilateral relations
“The structure of the problem is different, therefore each structure should have its own format”, – the Russian President’s spokesman Dimitri Peskov said in response to the initiative of the Georgian president.
“The Normandy format is unique, and it was formed to resolve the conflict in southeastern Ukraine, the intra-Ukrainian conflict. Here we are talking about bilateral relations between Russia and Georgia, which currently leaves a lot to be desired. And this deterioration, as we know, was provoked by quite unfriendly policy and aggressive actions of the former Georgian leadership”, – Dimitri Peskov said.
When speaking about the Geneva format and relations with Russia, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said in an interview with Georgian First Channel, that technical formats with Russia bring no results, and dialogue and negotiations do not mean concession. The president also noted: “We should tell Western partners that we need formats similar to Normandy format.”
