 Omer Meir Wellber (b. 1981, Beersheba, Israel) is one of the most interesting contemporary conductors who is constantly attracting attention with his exceptional style and varied accomplishments. He made his debut in 2008 with Verdi’s Aida. Having been chosen as Daniel Barenboim’s assistant, he says that learned many things from Barenboim, who was his mentor during that period, and came into his own as a musician working with him. His ability to learn the most complex scores of an opera in a very short time is quite remarkable. It is well-known that he was able to learn the libretto of Richard Strauss’s Daphne in only a few days, so that it could be put on in Dresden, where, at the podium of the venerable Semperoper, the composer himself had conducted it. He is the chief conductor of the BBC Philharmonic, and the music director of the Teatro Massimo di Palermo and the Ra’anana Symphonette Orchestra.
