INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP | EBU

EBU

The Georgian Public Broadcaster has been an active member of the European Broadcasting Union since 2005 and shares the EBU six core values, which contribute to public broadcasting existence in a democratic society.

These values are universality, independence, excellence, diversity, accountability, innovation.

The European Broadcasting Union unites 113 public media organizations from 56 countries.

A European Perspective

GPB joined A European Perspective project in 2023.

European Perspective is an initiative of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) aimed at creating a pan-European networked newsroom, where journalists from different European countries work together towards a common goal: to produce diverse, cross-cultural content and make reliable, verified online news produced by Europe’s public service media more accessible to the public.

The members of European Perspective are Georgia (GPB), Belgium (RTBF), Estonia (ERR), France (France Télévisions), Germany (BR24), Ireland (RTÉ), Latvia (LSM.lv), Lithuania (LRT), Portugal (RTP), Spain (RTVE), Sweden (SR), Switzerland (SWI swissinfo.ch), Czechia (ČT), Greece (ERT), Bulgaria (BNT and BNR), Poland (Polskie Radio), Ukraine (Suspilne Ukraine), the Franco-German broadcaster ARTE, Agence France-Presse (AFP), the Danish Constructive Institute, and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

As part of the European Perspective project, news stories are translated into the languages of the participating countries using artificial intelligence, requiring minimal human involvement.

On the Georgian Public Broadcaster’s online platform, 1tv.ge, news from 22 newsrooms across 18 European countries is available in Georgian. In turn, news from the Georgian Public Broadcaster’s online platform is published on the web portals of broadcasters in all countries participating in the project.

Constructive Journalism

For several years, GPB’s First Channel has followed a new standard of news coverage that is already well established in leading European countries—constructive journalism.

Eighteen journalists from GPB’s First Channel completed a training course at the Constructive Institute at Aarhus University in Denmark.

“The media should become society’s friend, guide and trusted authority. You can earn that authority only if you know what you are talking about and place the public interest above personal interests,” says Ulrik Haagerup of the Constructive Institute.

Constructive news is future-oriented. It is journalism that promotes public discussion about a better future.
