UEFA Euro 2028 exclusively on GPB

Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) will exclusively offer the UEFA Euro 2028 football championship to the public. The coverage will include live broadcasts of all matches across two television channels, First Channel and First Channel Sports, as well as on Georgian Radio and the First Channel’s free streaming platform, 1tvplay.ge.

The GPB purchased the license in cooperation with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

For the record, historical matches of the Georgian national team at the UEFA Euro 2024, besides sports significance as a television product, were distinguished by unprecedented, record-breaking viewership on the host broadcaster, GPB First Channel, which is worthy of attention and expressive for the industry since in the epoch of digital platforms strengthening that highly competes with television media, the championship was observed with unprecedented record-high viewership.

“Euro 2024 left us with unforgettable memories. Our team made history on the field, while the GPB First Channel conveyed this history to each family and individual, turning it into a festivity. The Georgian Public Broadcaster purchased the right to exclusively broadcast Euro 2028, which means that all key moments of the European Championships will be available for free on all platforms for TV viewers. We hope that with victories in 2028, we will unite society through our platforms. This is exactly our goal,” said Tinatin Berdzenishvili, GPB Director General.

Taking into account that the audience is fragmented across different platforms, the Public Broadcaster attaches great significance to the universal strategy and regards strengthening digital platforms as a top priority. The First Channel’s free streaming platform, 1tvplay.ge counts over half a million registered users, while the total viewing time exceeds three million hours.

UEFA Euro 2028 will be co-hosted by England, Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland from June 9 to July 9, 2028.
