Vice Speaker: Saakashvili’s vision relies on Georgia must endure severe hardship before ‘bright future’
First Vice Speaker of Parliament Gia Volski says former President Mikheil Saakashvili’s recent statements “cannot be taken seriously,” arguing that Saakashvili believes he is restoring his reputation through remarks that are “completely disconnected from reality.”
Volski further claimed that Saakashvili’s political outlook is based on the idea that Georgia should experience severe hardship before moving toward what he described as a “bright future.”
“His only vision is for the country to go through the fire and tears that Ukraine is experiencing today, so that it can somehow rise from the ashes and move toward a ‘bright future.’ The United National Movement has prospects only if the country collapses economically and physically, as they imagine, and only then would Saakashvili’s team be able to take power, although in reality it would be completely different people, not Georgian society, who would take the reins,” Volski stated.
Commenting on the Opposition Alliance, Volski said its members have so far demonstrated little beyond internal disputes.
“Whether they unite within the alliance or continue shouting from outside it makes no difference. We have never heard a coherent plan from them. Their rhetoric is limited to two claims: that the government is pro-Russian, which they cannot substantiate with facts, and that the elections were rigged, which did not happen. Their political agenda goes no further than these two issues. They seek to demonstrate their pro-Western stance through unethical methods, while ignoring the public,” Volski said.
