Vice Speaker Kakhiani: No need for Saakashvili and Khabeishvili to testify at party ban hearing, as they would add nothing new

“There is no need for Mikheil Saakashvili and Levan Khabeishvili to appear as witnesses at the Constitutional Court hearing,” said Giorgi Kakhiani, Deputy Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

Kakhiani told the court that the two men would have nothing new to say.

“What Ana Tsitlidze said is a complete fabrication. If necessary, I am fully prepared to speak out about the immense pressure my family faced from the very regime that Tsitlidze represents. As for the motion, the United National Movement has five representatives here, which is more than enough to articulate their position. We would not hear any new facts or circumstances even if Mikheil Saakashvili or Levan Khabeishvili were brought before the court. I see absolutely no need for it. Mikheil Saakashvili could have easily appointed his own legal representatives,” Kakhiani stated.

The Constitutional Court has begun a substantive hearing on the lawsuit seeking to declare the activities of five political parties unconstitutional and to ban them.

At the same hearing, the United National Movement asked the court to call Mikheil Saakashvili and Levan Khabeishvili to testify as witnesses.
