Georgian tennis player Nikoloz Basilashvili finished as runner-up at the ATP 250 tournament in Almaty, losing to former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev of Russia in three sets, 7–6 (8–6), 1–6, 3–6.

Basilashvili was solid on serve in the opening set and took the lead after an impressive performance in the tiebreak. However, Medvedev raised his level significantly to win the second and third sets.

Basilashvili began his Almaty campaign in qualifying, winning two matches before securing four more victories in the main draw.

The Georgian reached an ATP Tour final for the first time since 2022. His run earned him 165 ranking points and $96,000 in prize money, which will see him return to the world’s top 100.

Basilashvili is scheduled to compete at the Vienna tournament next week.
