UNM asks Constitutional Court to call jailed Saakashvili and Khabeishvili as witnesses
The United National Movement has filed a motion at the Constitutional Court hearing asking for Mikheil Saakashvili and Levan Khabeishvili to appear as witnesses.
Ana Tsitlidze told the court that it was vital for these two men in particular to attend, ensuring the public could hear their testimony.
“The lawsuit covers the period from 2003 to 2012, and then from 2012 to the present. We are requesting that Mikheil Saakashvili be summoned to testify as a witness. The main target of this lawsuit is Mikheil Saakashvili, who was president during those years. I’d like to know what questions Tengiz Sharmanashvili will put to him, given that he served as an ambassador during Saakashvili’s presidency. The same goes for Mr Giorgi Kakhiani, who was part of Davit Sakvarelidze’s campaign team under the National Movement.
We also request that Levan Khabeishvili be called as a witness in his capacity as Chairman of the National Movement’s Political Council, specifically to testify regarding the period from 2012 to the present. His position, and above all Mikheil Saakashvili’s, is essential so that Georgian citizens understand what is going on,” Tsitlidze said.
She added that she would hand the court a document on “the systemic crimes of Georgian Dream”. “If anyone should be banned, it is Georgian Dream,” Tsitlidze said.
The Constitutional Court has begun its substantive hearing of the ruling team’s lawsuit on the constitutionality and potential banning of five political parties.
