PM Kobakhidze: Restoring diplomatic ties with Russia still faces the same obstacle, so our position is unchanged

“Restoring diplomatic relations faces its own obstacle, and that situation has not changed. Our position has therefore not changed either,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in answer to a journalist’s question.

He noted that the Georgian Government is pursuing clear goals: peaceful conflict resolution, sustaining humanitarian connections, and expanding trade and economic cooperation.

“In reality, no new chapter is beginning. Until now, our section at the Swiss Embassy has been working actively, and once again we saw the need to reappoint a special representative to work alongside the section.

We have specific objectives: the peaceful resolution of the conflict, which remains one of our key political priorities; the continuous maintenance of humanitarian ties; and the development of trade and economic relations. Active work is required across all three areas. The Geneva format is in place and work continues, and our interest section remains active. But alongside this, we saw the need to reappoint a special representative, and we made that decision. Restoring diplomatic relations faces its own obstacles, and that situation has not changed. Our position has therefore not changed either,” the Prime Minister said.
