Vice Speaker: Bochorishvili’s invitation by Marco Rubio shows Georgia is important to US
“The United States acts in its own interests. For the U.S., cooperation and relations with Georgia would be a significant asset, and this cooperation has recently begun to take concrete forms,” First Vice Speaker of Parliament Gia Volski said.
According to him, several areas of cooperation have been identified, including discussions related to security and foreign affairs.
“Georgia, along with other countries in the South Caucasus, has become a key geographical location through which alternative transit routes should pass. These routes already exist, although they should operate on a much larger scale. Naturally, this is one of the key issues to be discussed in bilateral relations.
There were other topics as well, including the fight against international crime. A joint statement on this issue was recently published. We also remember the period of intensive cooperation between the U.S. and the Georgian military. All of this gives us reason to believe that these relations will continue to develop positively.
This is not being done to attract someone’s attention or to speculate that we are friends with the United States and are developing common positions. It is being done because it is in our national interest and contributes significantly to our stability,” Gia Volski said.
According to Volski, the United States has considerable influence over global affairs.
“At the invitation of Marco Rubio, Georgian Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili will participate in the ministerial forum in Washington. This is one of the strongest indications that cooperation with Georgia is of particular importance. This is important not only for the United States. Many other countries will also be represented at the forum, and discussing issues of cooperation with their representatives will also be on Maka Botchorishvili’s agenda,” Gia Volski said.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, is to travel to Washington, D.C., at the invitation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to participate in a ministerial on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism.
