Up to 1.5 million documents digitised as part of national archives project

In the first half of 2025, the National Archives of Georgia digitised nearly 1.5 million archival sheets, along with 250 film documents, 6,035 photographs, and 150 phonodocuments.

The National Archives state that, since 2013, the ongoing digitisation project aims to safeguard the original materials from physical deterioration and enhance accessibility.

“The process employs modern technology to preserve our national heritage. Handwritten documents are digitised using contactless scanners, while high-quality film digitisation is achieved with 4K resolution film scanners,” they note.

Using these digital versions, the National Archives has also created five multimedia pages on their website: ‘Dodo Abashidze – 100’, ‘Eros Manjgaladze – 100’, ‘Kakhi Kavsadze – 90’, ‘Titsian Tabidze – 130’, and a photographic collection by Dimitri Mdzinarishvili.
