UNM's Pavlenishvili: GD's decision to strip opposition MPs of credentials amounts to repression
“Every decision made by the Georgian Dream party, including the stripping of parliamentary credentials from 49 opposition lawmakers, is aimed at perpetuating repression,” asserted Irakli Pavlenishvili, a member of the United National Movement (UNM) party.
“We had demanded the termination of parliamentary credentials from the second day of the special operation following the elections. We followed the necessary procedures. However, this decision was taken because Ivanishvili wanted to carry out large-scale repressions against the opposition, particularly opposition politicians, arresting and neutralizing them. Every decision made by the Georgian Dream party, including the stripping of parliamentary credentials from 49 opposition lawmakers, is aimed at perpetuating repression. If you’re arrested, no immunity can protect you,” he said.
The Georgian Parliament has prematurely terminated the parliamentary mandates of 49 members to three opposition alliances: Coalition for Change – Gvaramia, Melia, Girchi, Droa; Strong Georgia – Lelo for People for Freedom; and the United National Movement.
