Strong Georgia-Lelo’s Datunashvili: GD announced a property tax reform but offered no specifics; concrete reforms are needed
“The Georgian Dream has retreated. Following our and society’s calls, the GD announced property tax reform, but as usual, offered no specifics. If the GD wants to serve public interests and for citizens and small entrepreneurs to experience relief, concrete reforms are required as urged by Strong Georgia-Lelo,” said Tazo Datunashvili, Executive Secretary of the Lelo party.
According to Datunashvili, the Lelo proposes the following measures to improve the tax system fundamentally:
The annual property tax threshold of 40,000 GEL should be raised to 100,000 GEL;
The VAT registration threshold of 100,000 GEL, in effect since 2005, should be raised to 500,000 GEL;
The customs clearance threshold for postal shipments should be raised from 300 GEL to 900 GEL;
“We guarantee that the citizens of this country, who are living in extreme poverty, facing monthly price hikes, and enduring unprecedented, colossal corruption because of Georgian Dream, will experience immense relief every month,” he said.
