UNM’s Irakli Pavlenishvili: We have major disagreements with Nika Gvaramia, particularly over territorial integrity

“We hold numerous differences of opinion with Nika Gvaramia, including on issues related to territorial integrity,” stated Irakli Pavlenishvili, Chairman of the Interim Governing Council of the United National Movement (UNM).

According to Pavlenishvili, Gvaramia and the United National Movement leadership hold markedly different views regarding Abkhazia and Tskhinvali.

“We hold numerous differences of opinion with Nika Gvaramia, including on issues related to territorial integrity. Gvaramia and our leadership, as well as the wider team, hold fundamentally different views on Abkhazia and Tskhinvali. You would have seen the statements published on social media. In this case, Gvaramia presumably refers to the separatists who cannot tolerate Georgians because they represent a Georgian-hating regime. He presumably means those individuals, not our everyday citizens who live alongside us. Georgians living in Abkhazia are no different from Georgians in any other part of the country. He is presumably referring to criminal separatists,” declared Irakli Pavlenishvili.

Earlier, Nika Gvaramia, the Ahali party’s leader, had stated: “Our objective is to restore territorial integrity; we cannot wait around to see who falls in love with whom; we must become so indispensable to one another that future generations cannot live without each other.”
