UNM Chair to give 24 hours to the government for ex-president’s transferring to civic clinic

Nika Melia, Chairman of the largest oppositional United National Movement (UNM) party gave 24 hours to the government as a deadline to transfer the jailed and hunger-striking ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili to a civic clinic.

Melia said if the government did not satisfy the demand, a larger-scale rally would be held on November 8 at Freedom Square in Tbilisi. He said he would announce the future action plan at the Monday rally.

“I urge the government, if anyone has slight common sense left to make the right decision and transfer the ex-president where his life and health will be ensured,” Melia claimed.

A protest rally was held at the N12 Rustavi Prison with the demand to transfer jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili to a civic clinic.

Law enforcers arrested Mikheil Saakashvili in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi on October 1. He has been on a hunger strike since the very first day of his arrest.
