Turkish Minister of Energy: Turkey and Georgia share unique partnership based on trust and friendship

Türkiye and Georgia share a unique partnership built on strong friendship, mutual trust, good neighbourliness, and a shared vision for regional peace. Over the years, our bilateral relations have grown steadily, becoming a true model of constructive cooperation in our region, said Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar at an event held at the Georgian Embassy in Turkey on May 26.

According to him, cooperation between Turkey and Georgia covers a wide range of areas, from trade and economy to energy, healthcare, tourism, and cultural relations.

“This multidimensional nature of our partnership continues to grow stronger each and every day, each and every year, with new areas and sectors. High-level contacts and reciprocal visits are clear indicators of the exceptional level of our relations. In this context, more than one hundred high-level visits took place between our countries last year, and this positive momentum seems to continue into this year, 2026. We were pleased to welcome His Excellency President Kvaratskhelia to Ankara in August last year, and to welcome the participation of His Excellency Prime Minister Kobakhidze and Madam Minister at the fifth Anatolian Diplomacy Forum in April. These reflect the close, ongoing dialogue between our countries. And yesterday, as you referred to as well, the tenth trilateral meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Georgia was held in Istanbul. We attach great importance to these visits and meetings as a vital means of elevating our relations to even higher levels. Ladies and gentlemen, our economic and commercial relations also continue to follow a highly positive trajectory,” said Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar.

According to Bayraktar, Turkey has consistently maintained its position as Georgia’s largest trading partner since 2008, and the initial goal of increasing bilateral trade turnover to three billion dollars has already been achieved.

“We firmly believe that we will soon achieve the new target of five billion dollars. This ambitious goal was set in 2024 by His Excellency President Erdoğan and His Excellency Prime Minister Kobakhidze. As two countries serving as a strategic bridge between East and West, our cooperation benefits not only Türkiye and Georgia, Madam Minister, but also the development and prosperity of our wider region. Our nations have consistently demonstrated the power of working together through landmark energy projects that contribute significantly to regional stability, economic development, and energy security. Today, the global energy landscape is evolving faster than ever, shaped by rapid technological advancement, shifts in economics, and geopolitical dynamics. In such a vibrant and challenging environment, our cooperation has become more vital than ever before. Strategic projects like Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum natural gas pipeline, and the Southern Gas Corridor, including TANAP, stand as enduring symbols of our shared vision and successful, long-lasting partnership. But our cooperation is not just about past achievements. We are constantly moving forward with concrete steps in new regional projects. A prime example is the green electricity transmission and trade project. This visionary milestone will not only strengthen regional connectivity and energy security, but also drive the integration of renewable energy into our energy markets,” said Bayraktar.

He also noted that beyond energy, Turkey and Georgia are important partners in large-scale regional transport projects.

“The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project stands as one of the flagship achievements of our partnership. We are fully confident that stronger regional connectivity and closer ties will advance our nations’ prosperity and unlock mutually beneficial opportunities for generations to come. Dear Deputy Prime Minister, dear guests, on this meaningful occasion, I once again congratulate the friendly people of Georgia on their Independence Day and wish them continued peace, stability, and success. May our friendship flourish, our cooperation deepen, and the bonds between our nations remain a source of strength for the future,” said the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.
