Tbilisi Mayor: While international organisations objectively assess Georgia, some European bureaucrats follow political interests

“It is true that all international organisations objectively evaluate Georgia’s progress. However, some European bureaucrats have their own political interests concerning us,” stated Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze.

Kakha Kaladze responded to the European Commission’s 2026 meta-study, which described Georgia as an irreplaceable strategic corridor.
He stated that the government is doing everything in its power to promote the country’s economic development and to implement as many reforms as possible.

“Of course, it is no secret that, due to our geopolitical position, our country functions as a kind of regional corridor, which is of great importance. Georgia is developing and progressing economically. Regarding our nation, there have been attempts to utilise us in various ways; calls for Georgia to join sanctions and to open a second front have been made. But we must act in a manner that safeguards our national interests and the welfare of our people. We have repeatedly emphasised that the European future and the journey towards European integration are both highly significant and quite challenging. We face many obstacles along this journey, and unfortunately, unfair treatment sometimes occurs. Despite all these difficulties, we are implementing reforms, moving forward as a nation, and maintaining peace. That, above all, is what matters most,” Kakha Kaladze affirmed.
