Tbilisi Mayor: Time to reveal adversities we averted through pragmatic policy
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has responded to remarks made by Jeffrey Sachs, a Columbia University professor, economist, and public policy analyst, who emphasized the need for caution and foresight in Georgia, warning Mikheil Saakashvili about these issues in the past.
Kaladze asserted that the government is committed to maintaining peace and safeguarding national interests.
He acknowledged that while their decisions may appear unpopular today, time will validate their wisdom.
“We are committed to preserving peace in the country despite the pressures, attacks, and threats we face. Our priority is to protect our people and national interests.
We remember the painful lessons of the past, especially the 2008 war and its consequences, which resulted in the loss of territories and lives. The scars of that conflict remain, and we fully understand the devastation that war brings. I would not wish upon anyone the suffering currently experienced by Ukraine.
Through our pragmatic policy, we are prioritizing our national interests. We often have to make choices that may be unpopular, but I believe that in time, everyone will recognize how much turmoil we have prevented through our prudent approach,” Kaladze stated.
