Nine mayoral candidates are registered for the October 4 local self-government elections in Tbilisi.
Specifically, the following are competing for the position of Mayor of the capital:
- Temur Bokelavadze (electoral number 1) – “Language, Homeland, Faith”;
- Zurab Makharadze (electoral number 3) – “Conservatives for Georgia”;
- Kakha Kukava (electoral number 7) – “Free Georgia”;
- Otar Chitanava (electoral number 8) – “Alliance of Patriots of Georgia”;
- Irakli Kupradze (electoral number 9) – “Strong Georgia–Lelo”;
- Giorgi Liluashvili (electoral number 11) – “Georgia”;
- Giorgi Gachechiladze (electoral number 12) – “Greens Party”;
- Iago Khvichia (electoral number 36) – “Girchi”;
- Kakha Kaladze (electoral number 41) – “Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia”.
To win the election, the mayoral candidate for the capital must secure more than 50 per cent of the vote. Otherwise, a second round will be necessary, conducted between the candidates who finish in first and second place.
In Tbilisi, 1,043,482 voters are registered for the elections, and 582 polling stations have been opened.
