Tbilisi Mayor: Opposition decisions on local elections are insignificant; past platforms have failed to bring change

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze asserts that it doesn’t matter who from the opposition makes what decision regarding the upcoming local government elections.

Responding to a relevant question, he emphasised that the ruling team has already begun preparations for the local race and will soon present its vision to the public.

“I don’t know who will make what decision. Who is going to do what—frankly, it doesn’t really matter. They will follow instructions and do whatever they are told. Just a few days ago, they publicly announced their refusal to participate in the elections. However, they swiftly began discussing certain individuals planning to run as soon as external rhetoric changed. It’s inconsequential to us what decisions these radical groups will make. We have already started preparing for the local elections and will soon unveil our vision for the next four years,” Kaladze stated.

The Tbilisi Mayor also addressed questions regarding the so-called “opposition platform,” noting that opposition representatives have no genuine connection to the Georgian people or the country’s interests.

“I repeat once again: society clearly sees that there is a confrontation and a difference of opinion among these individuals. We have witnessed many such unions and platforms that ultimately brought no change. We know who these people are, where they are influenced, and who their true backers are. They have no real ties to society, nor do they belong to the Georgian people or our homeland. They are controlled by others, with interests opposed to Georgia’s sovereignty. Society recognises and values this distinction very well,” the Tbilisi Mayor concluded.
