Vice Speaker Tsilosani: Prosecutorial response exposes hypocrisy of Garibashvili post-cheerleaders

“The prompt legal response by the Prosecutor’s Office has made it clear that every individual who whipped up excitement over Garibashvili’s post was, for their part, spreading falsehoods. Now, one after another, they are issuing statements admitting they possess no additional information whatsoever regarding the suicide,” Vice-Speaker of Parliament Nino Tsilosani has stated.

According to Tsilosani, it is regrettable that known disinformation purveyors like Gvaramia and Zhorzholiani have quickly amplified Garibashvili’s false claims.

“His statements served only to excite the United National Movement activists. The Prosecutor’s Office has informed us that family members, close associates, and all available physical evidence lead to a single, unequivocal conclusion: this was suicide. It appears that for certain individuals, this was viewed as a convenient moment to inflict political damage and discredit both the Prosecutor’s Office and the government as a whole. It is immensely disappointing that Garibashvili’s post found resonance only among United National Movement activists and disinformation peddlers like Gvaramia, Zhorzholiani, and their ilk.

Evidently, they are playing a coordinated game. Crucially, Nika Gvaramia was actively egging Garibashvili on, urging him to ‘inflict pain, cause damage regardless’. This post and subsequent ones were likely a continuation of that line. Tragically, our former teammate bought into Gvaramia’s advice. Regardless of how aggrieved or angry he may feel from his own vantage point, it remains entirely unacceptable to me for anyone to align themselves with the United National Movement narrative,” Nino Tsilosani noted.

Earlier today, the Prosecutor’s Office released a statement confirming that numerous investigative and procedural actions have been executed within the ongoing Ministry of Internal Affairs investigation into the suicide of Lazare Jorbenadze on 4 April 2026. According to the agency, extensive witness interviews were conducted with individuals connected to the deceased, including family members and his spouse, based on which the fact of suicide has been conclusively established at this stage.

The Prosecutor’s Office further noted that following public statements made by convict Irakli Garibashvili and other figures, several individuals will be summoned for questioning by the Ministry of Internal Affairs under prosecutorial supervision. Those listed for interview include Nika Gvaramia, Irma Inashvili, Nanuka Zhorzholiani, Khatia Dekanoidze, Tazo Datunashvili, Gia Khukhashvili, Giorgi Liluashvili, Zaza Davitaia, Ermile Nemsadze, and Giorgi Gigauri.

Former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili published his latest letter on 1 September.
