Tbilisi Mayor Kaladze: Ukraine is already being termed a buffer zone; this is the tragic reality

“Descriptions by foreign politicians characterising Ukraine as a buffer zone against Russian aggression reflect a tragic reality,” Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze remarked on Monday, following recent statements by Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

Kaladze asserted that without the Georgian government’s principled stance, the country would have suffered a similar fate.

“Ukraine is already being described as a buffer zone; this is the tragic reality. Had it not been for our principled stance and the prudent policies pursued by Georgian Dream–Democratic Georgia, we too, unfortunately, would have faced the very same trajectory,” Kaladze stated.

“Through the policies we have maintained over recent years, despite relentless insults, immense pressure, defamation, and threats, we protected the national interest, the Georgian public, our economy, and the country’s development. Had we failed to maintain this position, we would now be in the same dire predicament currently unfolding in Ukraine, which foreign figures themselves now classify as a buffer zone,” the Mayor added.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb had previously remarked that the Ukrainian military functions as a “buffer zone and a barrier against potential Russian aggression.”
