Tbilisi Mayor: Heavy precipitation expected in capital tonight; all municipal services are on full alert
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, alongside Deputy Mayor Irakli Bendeliani and Giorgi Papava, head of Tbilisi Service Group Ltd., issued a video message on Facebook in response to reports of worsening weather conditions. The Mayor reassured residents that the city is fully prepared for the upcoming snowfall.
“Heavy precipitation has been forecast for the capital and its integrated territories tonight. All relevant municipal services are on standby, and all necessary road-clearing operations will be carried out with the appropriate equipment. I would like to express my gratitude to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for its cooperation. During the last major snowfall, we established an excellent working relationship with them. We received real-time data promptly, and the patrol police assisted in ensuring road safety. Should the need arise, a hotline is available where you can call, and we will do everything in our power to resolve any issues that emerge,” Mayor Kaladze said.
The Deputy Mayor stressed that all relevant services have been mobilised to prevent any disruption to road traffic across the city.
“In accordance with your instructions, all relevant departments of the City Hall have moved to a 24-hour operational footing, as have all district administrations. We are fully mobilised on every front, and wherever public transport movement may be disrupted, we will respond immediately. We are also maintaining ongoing communication with all relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, to obtain real-time updates on potential delays and emerging issues. We will address every challenge to the best of our ability and will do our utmost to ensure there are no unresolved issues anywhere in the city,” said Irakli Bendeliani.
Giorgi Papava, head of TbilService Group, confirmed that all specialised equipment is ready for deployment and that salt supplies are fully sufficient to handle whatever the weather brings.
“We are in a state of complete technical readiness, with full mobilisation at all salting depot locations. Our personnel have shifted to round-the-clock operations. Heavy machinery and road salt supplies are more than sufficient to handle precipitation of any kind. In addition, 200 staff members have been deployed across the entire city, including its integrated territories, to conduct rapid patrols by light vehicle, ready to respond immediately wherever snow accumulates, roads ice over, or any other problems arise,” Papava said.
