Tbilisi Mayor condemns attempted coup, accuses foreign interference, and calls for rebooted U.S. relations

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has stated that, despite numerous warnings from the state, specific individuals attempted to orchestrate a coup d’état on October 4, which will be met with a harsh response within the framework of the law.

As Kaladze stated in response to relevant questions, the attempted coup had been in preparation for months before being thwarted by representatives of the relevant agencies.

“The gravest fact has been recorded; for months, a campaign was underway regarding a coup d’état, the overthrow of the government, and specific individuals and groups attempted to bring this to fruition. All of this will not pass so simply. They may have had a different opinion, but no one is above the law. Accordingly, we warned our fellow citizens not to take unlawful steps; yet they did so anyway, which is their decision. We are all free in our own decisions. This is their choice. All of this will be met with a very harsh response from the state, naturally within the framework of the law,” Kakha Kaladze stated.

Regarding questions about the encouragement of rally participants from various countries, Kakha Kaladze noted that nothing is surprising about this, since extremism and the division of society are funded precisely by foreign countries.

“We shouldn’t be surprised, my friends, because every misfortune that occurs in the country naturally comes with their involvement. All of this is externally orchestrated. Hundreds of millions were spent to create an agent network in the country. Who were, who are the people employed in the ranks of those non-governmental organisations that were funded from abroad? Simply put, an agent network had been developing over the years, capable of toppling any government whenever necessary. We decoded all of this, presented it clearly to society, and provided genuine insights into how it all operated. Today, they’re furious, enraged with the Georgian people because Georgian voters told them no, assigned them their proper place in both parliamentary and local self-government elections. People analyse very well and choose between black and white, who loves the country and who is an enemy. Recall the statements of certain ambassadors. They quite simply encourage violence, support perpetrators of violence, and extremist organisations. This is reality,” the Tbilisi mayor noted.

Response to American Senators

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze believes that American Senators Jim Risch and Jeanne Shaheen, who addressed the U.S. President’s administration with a joint statement regarding Georgia, are under the influence of the Global War Party.

As Kakha Kaladze stated when answering journalists’ questions, the Georgian government’s message is that it is ready to reboot relations with the United States.

“These people are also under the influence of the Global War Party. We’ve stated many times, and I’ll repeat once more, that we support President Trump in defeating the Deep State. How much he’ll manage and succeed, we shall see. In parallel, we’re ready to begin relations from a clean slate.

This is our message, our attitude, and desire that relations be rebooted so that we can have friendship, partnership, and naturally this must be bilateral and not unilateral,” Kakha Kaladze noted.

American senators, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch and ranking member Jeanne Shaheen, responded to the political situation unfolding in Georgia and events following the October 4 local elections.

“We urge the Trump Administration to consider recent actions by the Georgian government before pursuing any change to the bilateral relationship,” Jeanne Shaheen and Jim Risch stated.

European People’s Party Double Standards

Tbilisi’s mayor, Kakha Kaladze, called the European People’s Party’s (EPP) demand regarding the imposition of sanctions an example of double standards.

According to him, Georgians analyse well both the participants and goals of this double game.

“This is an example of double standards. These associations, parties, and specific high-ranking officials are under the influence of the Deep State. They’re fighting the Georgian people and framing filth to encourage criminality and violence, to divide society. Most importantly, Georgian people have analysed well who is who and who has what interest regarding Georgia,” Kakha Kaladze stated.

He explained why this party is fighting and demanding the sanctioning of Bidzina Ivanishvili.

“Mr Bidzina Ivanishvili is a significant figure in the country, who enjoys great affection in Georgian society. In 2012, he united the majority of the population and defeated the country’s enemies, the so-called Global War Party, which is present not only in Georgia but also in various countries worldwide. With his firm character, he demonstrated how important the homeland’s interests are, which is why we shouldn’t be surprised that today those they’re fighting against are Bidzina Ivanishvili,” Kakha Kaladze noted.

For information, the European People’s Party (EPP) released a statement regarding recent events in Georgia. According to the statement, “the European People’s Party calls on the European Union and its member states to impose targeted sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili and his enablers complicit in undermining democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in Georgia.”
