An object believed to be an unmanned aerial vehicle crashed into the grounds of a police station in Turkey’s Black Sea province of Trabzon, Turkish media reported.

The object fell into the yard of the Arsin District Police Department at around 7 p.m., damaging the parked vehicles and shattering windows on the police building and nearby businesses. Security camera footage captured the moment of impact.

Police cordoned off the area, while crime scene investigators and bomb disposal teams examined the wreckage.

Trabzon Governor Tahir Şahin, who visited the scene, said the object was initially believed to be an aerial vehicle but that its exact nature and origin had not been determined. It was not immediately clear where the object came from or why it crashed.

Şahin said an investigation has been launched into the incident.

The incident follows a series of drone-related security alerts along Turkey’s Black Sea coast, although there is no evidence that the object found in Trabzon was connected to the war between Russia and Ukraine.
