SSSG seizes large amount of weapons, ammunition purchased by individual at instruction of Georgian representative of military unit operating in Ukraine

The State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) announced at the briefing that through obtained operative information, it seized a large amount of ammunition, weapons and explosives.

According to the SSSG, an individual B.Ch., at the instruction of a Georgian representative of one of the military units operative in Ukraine, purchased a large amount of ammunition, weapons and explosives for their use at the October 4 rally.

“In parallel to the use of the ammunition at the October 4 organized group violence and the attempt to take over the Presidential Palace in Tbilisi, sabotage acts had to follow. Through preventive measures carried out by the SSSG officers, the group of individuals, who presumably had to transport the ammunition to the Tbilisi center, were neutralized.

The weapons and explosives were hidden in a forest near Tbilisi. We identified an individual who, at the instruction of B.Ch, produced a detonation remote. The individual is brought to the SSSG, and all relevant investigation activities are underway,” the SSSG said.

The SSSG said the charged B.Ch will face criminal proceedings and be declared as wanted.

“This morning, a search was conducted in B. Ch.’s apartment, where law enforcers discovered a cell phone, which the individual used when in Georgia. As a result of inspecting the cell phone, the SSSG seized the main evidence – several videos where B. Ch. reports to yet unidentified individual on his purchased ammunition.

An investigation is opened under Part III of Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. Operative activities continue to determine and reveal other accomplices of the crime. On behalf of the SSSG heads, we commend officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Prosecutor’s Office and State Security Special Service for contributing to the activity and for the prevention of threats faced on October 4 at high standards. Our special thanks to each SSSG officer for courage and high professionalism,” the SSSG said.
