Special Penitentiary Service issues statement regarding convict Giorgi Davitadze
The Special Penitentiary Service categorically denies fabricated claims made by convict Giorgi Davitadze alleging that staff at Prison Facility No. 6 committed sexual assault against him.
In an official statement issued by the agency, the Penitentiary Service was responding to reports broadcast by TV Pirveli, which stated that ‘the convict, Giorgi Davitadze, told the Court of Appeals that he was subjected to sexual assault’.
The agency dismissed the allegations as completely false, describing them as part of an ongoing smear campaign initiated by the Davitadze family to discredit the correctional system.
“Furthermore, given the high level of public interest, we stand ready, in accordance with procedures established by law, to release the relevant CCTV footage so the public can see for themselves the moment convict Davitadze was placed in the de-escalation room and his entire stay there,” the Penitentiary Service stated.
“The Special Penitentiary Service maintains that any form of violence or degrading treatment by staff is unacceptable and will face appropriate legal action if substantiated. However, as previously stated regarding Davitadze, both investigators and representatives from the Public Defender’s Office have already examined this video footage; neither found evidence of a criminal offence. No violence whatsoever, sexual or otherwise, took place against Davitadze,” the statement concluded.
