Speaker Papuashvili: Last year, we observed how EU countries and others dismissed OSCE/ODIHR conclusions on Georgia’s parliamentary elections
“The main issue we saw after the elections last year was the OSCE/ODIHR’s conclusions and the assessments provided by its mission leaders. Yet, we witnessed the EU countries and others dismissing these findings entirely,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili told journalists.
According to Papuashvili, despite all parties having agreed in advance that these assessments would serve as their main guideline regarding the elections, they were largely ignored.
“We saw a clear assessment, including from the representatives of the mission, that the elections took place on October 26. Nonetheless, a conventional hybrid attack on Georgia, orchestrated from external sources, occurred afterwards. Today, once again, we see a relentless flow of disinformation targeting the Georgian elections and our democracy. All we can say is that it is crucial for the OSCE, together with the ODIHR, to ensure that other countries respect these standards,” emphasised Shalva Papuashvili.
