Speaker: New rules of procedure of Georgian Parliament, reflecting parliamentary sovereignty take effect today
“Today marks the entry into force of the new Rules of Procedure of the Parliament of Georgia, which we adopted during the spring session. As of now, the Parliament will operate under these updated rules,” stated Speaker Shalva Papuashvili during the plenary session.
“These new Rules of Procedure are a living document. It is customary for a new parliament to adopt its own rules—an essential expression of parliamentary sovereignty. Unlike other laws, the Rules of Procedure is a legislative act signed solely by the Parliament’s Chairman, underscoring that establishing its own procedural rules is a fundamental aspect of Parliament’s sovereignty,” Papuashvili emphasised.
He expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in the development of the new Rules of Procedure, acknowledging their dedication and effort.
