Speaker hosts Armenian Parliamentary Foreign Relations delegation

The Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, met with a delegation from the Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly of Armenia, the Parliament of Georgia reported.

Papuashvili positively assessed the cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries. He noted that significant geopolitical changes are taking place globally, creating new opportunities for establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Sargis Khandanyan, Chairman of the Armenian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, welcomed the format of joint committee meetings between the Georgian and Armenian legislatures, describing it as an effective platform for discussing bilateral relations and regional developments. He outlined Armenia’s foreign policy priorities, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation and good-neighbourly relations.

The sides discussed the current situation in the South Caucasus and prospects for lasting peace in the region. Khandanyan expressed appreciation for Georgia’s role in supporting regional stability, particularly highlighting Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s decision to allow a one-time shipment of Azerbaijani fuel to Armenia by rail through Georgia free of charge.

The meeting also touched on ongoing negotiations between Armenia and Turkey and their potential outcomes.

The parties reviewed internal political developments and planned reforms in both countries.
