Speaker calls on donors, foreign actors to make NED, EED projects public

“We witness a regular propagandist and disinformation storm on the Georgian population. They want to suppress discussion with shouts, slogans and mottos. They use the usual KGB methods. The attitude of foreign actors toward Georgia is significant in this context,” said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

According to the Speaker, if foreign actors have nothing to conceal, “nothing prevents them” from making public the projects of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and European Endowment for Democracy (EED) in Georgia.

“If transparency is the main principle for them and they do not reject its necessity, instead of speaking and expressing concerns, it would have been better to make them public and demonstrate to Georgian people that they have nothing to hide,” he said.

The Speaker claimed that instead of demonstrating transparency, they “act in the style of certain groups participating in this discourse.”

“I once again call on donors and foreign actors, if they are sincere in their standpoints about transparency and have nothing to conceal, it takes five minutes for them to make 2022, 2023 and ongoing NED and EED projects public. Nothing prevents them from doing so. The ball is in their court now to show the Georgian people that they are sincere in their attitude toward Georgian people,” he said.
