MP Makhashvili: Garibashvili’s statements aim to intimidate state officials and obstruct legal process
“From Irakli Garibashvili’s side, this is an attempt, through empty words, to intimidate state representatives and obstruct the legal process. There is nothing more behind this,” Levan Makhashvili, Chair of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee, told Georgia’s First Channel.
According to Makhashvili, Garibashvili is attempting to evade legal responsibility.
“Irakli Garibashvili is trying to escape legal responsibility. What evidence is he basing his statements on? He has none. These are empty words. Therefore, no matter how many political motives they attach to their actions or how much they try to exploit someone else’s misfortune, no one will be able to evade legal responsibility,” Makhashvili said.
He added that further questioning would likely confirm attempts to manipulate the fate or misfortune of other people.
“We are not accusing anyone of anything. Irakli Garibashvili himself admitted his own wrongdoing. There is specific evidence in the case, and this person is directly implicated. Unfortunately, high-ranking officials are indicating that he committed a crime,” Makhashvili said.
According to him, Garibashvili’s statements are intended to intimidate state representatives and interfere with the legal process.
“There is nothing more behind this,” Makhashvili said.
