Speaker announces immediate creation of temporary commission to address food, medicine, and fuel prices
The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, has declared that a resolution will be discussed to establish a temporary commission at the very first spring session. This body will investigate issues surrounding the prices of food, medicines, and fuel.
Papuashvili stated that the Georgian Dream faction has already drafted a resolution for this purpose.
“You are aware that the spring session begins next week. From the very first meetings, discussions will take place, and a temporary commission will be established to investigate these three vital areas: food, medicines, and fuel. Our goal is to involve society through public sessions, enabling us to understand how prices are determined across the entire supply chain, whether by producers, distributors, or other intermediaries. We want to hear directly from those involved.
They have signalled the possibility of reducing prices and identified issues that could be tackled through legislation, changes in practice, or greater public awareness; this will be a transparent process, involving all relevant parties. Together with society, we will seek to clarify the situation and reach well-informed decisions,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
