Saakashvili tries to discredit election process, electronic voting, CEC says

The Central Election Commission (CEC) on Tuesday said ex-president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili was openly trying to discredit the election process and electronic voting.

According to the CEC statement, the ex-president’s claim that the electronic voting system cancels elections is also a “lie.”

“His assertion is false as if Georgia’s system is identical to Russia’s. In reality, at no point is the system identical to the one in Russia, but it is vastly different and far safer against any influence, including cyber interference.

In fact, eight pilot projects in 16 municipalities have demonstrated that the use of electronic technologies has facilitated openness, simplified voting procedures, and made the process completely transparent.

We encourage stakeholders, as well as foreign organizations and the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia, to respond to the disinformation campaign in order to protect the best interests of voters,” reads the statement.
