Russian State Duma approves agreement to strengthen cooperation with occupied Georgian region of South Ossetia

The Russian State Duma has ratified an agreement to deepen cooperation with the occupied Georgian territory of South Ossetia.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted the document to the lower house of parliament for approval.

Under the terms of the agreement, Russia and South Ossetia will continue to develop a unified economic space, gradually adopting a coordinated approach to external loans and foreign investments. The plan also includes integrating energy and transport systems, enhancing communications and telecommunications, and expanding collaboration across social, labour, and cultural spheres.

Furthermore, the agreement aims to facilitate a coordinated foreign policy, address defence and security issues, improve socio-economic conditions, develop infrastructure, and create a favourable environment for the free movement of capital, goods, services, and labour.
