Russia expels 23 British diplomats

Russia has expelled 23 British diplomats, – RIA Novosti has reported referring to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Reportedly, the Russian foreign ministry summoned the British ambassador on Saturday to inform him of the retaliatory action that follows the UK’s expulsion of 23 Russian diplomats earlier this week.

Britain’s foreign secretary, Boris Johnson, accused the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, of personally ordering the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter, who remain in hospital in critical condition after the 4 March attack. Putin’s spokesman denounced the claim.

The development comes three days after British Prime Minister Theresa May’s decision to kick out 23 Russian diplomats allegedly operating as undeclared intelligence officers in Britain.

Russian sanctions against Britain are over the poisoning of former intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the English town of Salisbury last week.
