Roads Department issues travel alert amid severe winter conditions

The Roads Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Infrastructure has issued an update on current conditions across the country’s road network.

According to the Roads Department, due to severe meteorological conditions, specifically blizzard conditions and severely reduced visibility, all traffic has been temporarily suspended on the Gudauri (Post Office)–Kobi section of the international Mtskheta–Stepantsminda–Larsi highway.
On the Tbilisi–Senaki–Leselidze highway, vehicles towing trailers or semi-trailers are prohibited from travelling along the Kareli junction–Boriti junction section.

As regards other routes, special traffic management regimes have been introduced on a number of road sections owing to heavy snowfall and adverse meteorological conditions.

Specifically, due to ice, heavy snowfall and difficult weather conditions, vehicles towing trailers or semi-trailers are restricted on the following roads: the Gomi–Sachkhere–Chiatura–Zestaponi highway; the Khashuri–Vale customs checkpoint section; kilometres 1–42 (Koda–village of Algeti) and kilometres 110–146 of the Koda–Partskisi–Manglisi–Tsalka–Ninotsminda highway; the Akhaltsikhe–Ninotsminda and Akhalkalaki–Kartsakhi roads; the Sachkhere–Oni road; the Nakerala Pass; and the Jvari–Ushguli section of the Zugdidi–Jvari–Mestia–Lasdili highway.

Due to avalanche risk, heavy snowfall, poor visibility and blizzard conditions, all vehicle traffic has been temporarily suspended on the following routes: the Nichbisi–Didgori–Didi Toneti highway; the Paravani Pass; the Goderdzi Resort–Utkisubani section of the Batumi–Akhaltsikhe road; and the Kala–Ushguli and Mele–Lasdili sections.

All remaining roads are open to traffic.
