Rikard Jozwiak, editor at the European Bureau of Radio Liberty, reports that EU foreign ministers discussed Georgia during today’s meeting, but no concrete steps regarding sanctions were taken.

According to him, the European Union is urging Georgia to take the first step toward initiating dialogue on human rights.

“EU foreign ministers discussed Georgia today. No movement on sanctions in the room. There is an EU push to do a human rights dialogue with Georgia as a first step. For anything further, Georgia has to stop aggressive language against the EU, stop harassing the opposition, and revisit CSO legislation,” Jozwiak wrote.

He also noted that EU High Representative Kaja Kallas indicated that the issue of possible sanctions against Georgia would be revisited once other member states are fully engaged in the discussion, with an indirect reference to Hungary’s position.

“Kallas says there will be a “revisit” of possible Georgian sanctions once there are other representatives around the table,” Jozwiak added.
